Feeding the future.
Closing the circles.

How a question became FarmInsect

It all started with a question: What are the biggest climate killers? We quickly identified agriculture as one of the biggest drivers of CO2 emissions. So the next question was: What can we do about it? When insects were approved as animal feed in the EU in 2017, it was clear to us that this was our topic and that we could make a difference.

We - Thomas & Wolfgang - had both already successfully founded a company. And we knew that the climate crisis needed quick solutions. That's why we left our former companies and founded FarmInsect.

  1. 2025

Expansion of our production and processing network in Germany and Europe.

  2. 2024

Launch of the processing platform to convert BSF larvae into protein meal and oil for the animal feed and pet food industry.

  3. 2023

BSF larvae are being established as a sustainable alternative to soy and fishmeal. The EU Commission recognizes the potential and is funding FarmInsect with 12.5 million euros.

  4. 2022

We can proudly say that we are the largest regional insect production network in Europe. This is still just the beginning: in order to save more soy and fishmeal, we must continue to grow.

  5. 2021

More and more farmers and fish farmers wanted our insect feed. To meet the increasing demand, we opened a new production site covering over 1,000 square meters.

  6. 2020

The insect feed was very well received by the animals, so the next step followed: not only did we want to produce insect feed, we also wanted the farmer to be able to do it on site. A short time later, we installed the first customer system.

  7. 2019

Had an idea, built a prototype and realized: Yes, the idea is feasible. Next, we started our first own production of insect larvae to test the use of insect food on a large scale.

  8. 2017 & 2018

We wanted to do something about climate change. After the initial idea, we quickly set to work on the first prototype to check whether our ideas could be implemented at all.
