The path to your own system

We offer a comprehensive, scalable and sustainable solution for decentralized insect production. These systems could be an attractive investment for farms looking to optimize their feed protein supply while implementing environmentally sustainable measures.

  1. Step 1
    Interest phase (1-2 months):

The operational structures are analyzed, a consultation is held on the FarmInsect concept and production economics, and visits are made to a production facility and a customer.

  2. Step 2
    Decision phase (1 month)

A waiting list contract is signed, the approval process is initiated and a financing concept is drawn up, in each case with optional support from FarmInsect.

  3. Step 3
    Implementation phase (6-24 months):

A project plan is drawn up, an individual feed recipe for the larvae is developed based on the available feed (including free feed tests), detailed system and building planning is carried out and the system is installed and commissioned.

Q&A

How can I imagine insect fattening?

In our concept, everything explicitly revolves around a larva, which is fattened in closed production units. This means that an adult insect does not develop.

What do I need for insect fattening?

There are 3 important factors: buildings, energy and feed. The latter is the biggest cost driver and can also put the first two points into perspective.

What food do the larvae get?

As the larva of the black soldier fly is approved as a farm animal, we are only allowed to feed it approved feedstuffs. Everything on the DLG's positive feed list may be used.

Where can I get the larvae?

Breeding and reproduction takes place at FarmInsect. The young animals are then regularly delivered to the fattening farms.

What happens to the larvae after fattening?

The larvae are kept in a cooling device and then collected from the farm at closely timed intervals. They are then further processed into market-relevant product stages and are used in animal feed.

What added value do insects have?

We are 90% dependent on protein imports to feed humans and animals. Animal protein in particular plays a major role and offers little or no alternative. With insect larvae, we solve precisely this problem and produce a domestic, animal protein.

Are the larvae also used in food?

No, the larva of the black soldier fly is currently not approved for food production, but only for aquaculture, pigs, poultry and pets.
